Sérgio Ivan Lopes (Senior Member, IEEE), born in Aveiro, is the founding Director of CiTin-Centro de Interface Tecnológico e Industrial and a senior researcher at the Instituto de Telecomunicações. 

He is an Assistant Professor and the director of the Bachelor’s degree program in Networks and Computer Systems Engineering at ESTG-IPVC. He holds a degree in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering, a master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Aveiro, and a post-graduate diploma in Project Management from Porto Business School/University of Porto.

He is the co-author of more than 100 scientific publications, expert at the European Commission since 2016, and has strong experience in coordinating R&D activities.

He is a specialist in cyber-physical systems, IIoT/IoT, edge computing, and localization systems. In 2007, he was awarded the ESPA-Excellence in Signal Processing prize by Texas Instruments, and in 2015, he won the Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge award with the best doctoral thesis. Currently, he coordinates the Professional Activities at the Portuguese Section of the IEEE.
